When was the last time you wrote a handwritten letter?
Not a quick message, not an email, but an actual letter — sitting down with a piece of paper, choosing your words and sending them off to someone you care about.
I think there is something very special about handwritten mail. It takes a little more time, but that is exactly what makes it feel so personal. And finding a real letter in the mailbox between bills and everyday post still feels like a small surprise.
So I thought: why not write more letters again?
Starting this September, I’m creating a new free printable Letter Writing Set every month here on the moDeern blog. Each set will come with illustrated writing paper and a matching envelope, inspired by the season and by the little things I love drawing throughout the year.

September Letter Writing Set
For the first edition, I wanted to capture that very particular feeling of early autumn.
Summer isn’t quite over yet, but you can already spot the first signs of the new season: rosehips and berries, leaves in warmer colours and the last little flowers growing in between.
The September set is filled with hand-drawn botanical details in warm reds, earthy browns, olive greens and a touch of soft lilac.
The printable PDF includes one sheet of illustrated letter paper and a matching envelope that you can cut out and fold at home. The set is designed for DIN A4 paper (210 × 297 mm), so you can simply print it at home on standard A4 sheets.
Not sure what to write?
You don’t need a big story or a special occasion to send someone a letter. Sometimes the nicest letters are simply a little glimpse into everyday life.
If you don’t know where to start, here are a few ideas:
Tell someone about something small that made you smile this week.
Share what you’ve been reading, watching, cooking or listening to lately.
Write about something you’re looking forward to.
Send a memory you recently thought about.
Tell someone why you were thinking of them.
Ask a question you’d genuinely love to hear their answer to.
Describe what life looks like outside your window right now.
Or simply start with: “I don’t really know what to write, but I wanted to send you a letter.”
That is already enough.
A handwritten letter doesn’t have to be long, clever or perfectly written. It’s the fact that someone took the time to sit down and send a few words that makes it special.
So print the set, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and write a few lines to someone you haven’t heard from in a while.
Maybe, little by little, we can bring a bit more real mail back into our mailboxes.
Download the September Letter Writing Set below and write your first letter.
The printable is free for personal use only.
